República Democrática Popular Lao

The National Environment Committee (NEC) is Lao PDR’s high-level, cross-sectoral coordination mechanism responsible for overseeing actions and policies related to environment, water, natural resources, and climate change issues. The NEC leads the implementation of policies, laws, and regulations; monitors and reports on activities at the central and local levels; coordinates actions among ministries, agencies, local authorities, and relevant actors; and mobilizes international cooperation. The Committee also facilitates the integration of community perspectives into climate resilience and disaster risk management efforts. Chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Committee comprises senior representatives from government ministries, mass organizations and the Trade and Industry Council. At the time of the NAP submission, the NEC was undergoing institutional revision.
